Bentley blockade phone in to politicians
SAY NO TO POLICE BEING USED TO FORCE ACCESS FOR GAS CORPORATION
PLEASE PHONE NSW PREMIER & POLICE MINISTER TODAY & EVERY DAY THIS WEEK.
Police are expected in large numbers at the Bentley Blockade site near Casino and Lismore, where the community are opposing gas drilling by Metgasco in the Northern Rivers.
The date of the 19th May has been confirmed for potentially 700+ riot police to enforce access for Metgasco to the proposed drill site.
The community believe this to be both unnecessary and an absolute breach of their democratic right to express their opposition to this toxic industry and that the Government has not heard nor acted on the community’s overwhelming support for a gasfield free community of which 87% voted against the industry in a local council election.
The Northern Rivers call on people everywhere, particularly in the cities, to support their opposition to this industry and demand that there is an immediate political solution that calls off the NSW police being used to force access. This level of force is dangerous and unnecessary for a community engaging in peaceful and non violent direct action to protect the land and water which they are dependent upon.
NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO CONTACT “STUART AYRES” AS HE STARTS HIS FIRST DAYS ON THE JOB AS MINISTER FOR POLICE AND ALSO BENTLEY FARMERS ARE IN SYDNEY TO SPEAK TO MINISTERS IN PARLIAMENT HOUSE ABOUT THE MATTER.

* Brad Hazzard – Minister for Justice (tehe!) – Phone (02) 9228 5258 / firstname.lastname@example.org
POINTS TO MAKE:
– Request the Government cancel sending in riot squad and police presence and make clear to them that they should enable the community, who are wholly opposed to this industry, to peacefully assemble and exercise their right to object to Metgasco’s gasfield exploration plans at the site.
– Request that the Government immediately freeze the licence and exploration activity and review the situation, and that based on the fact that the community are unequivocally opposed to the exploration of unconventional gas by Metgasco (87%+ say NO) that the exploration be cancelled to reflect democratic process, and the Petroleum exploration licence be revoked by the NSW Govt. as the gas company have “no social licence”.
