Alliance welcomes sale of Northern Rivers gas licence: urges action to protect the region
Gasfield Free Northern Rivers has welcomed this afternoon’s announcement from Minister Roberts that the government is buying back Clarence Moreton Resources PEL 457.
“The communities that are covered by this licence can now rest easy knowing that they are no longer under threat of invasive gasfields,” said Gasfield Free Northern Rivers Coordinator, Dean Draper.
“We are pleased that the government is taking action to respond to the sentiments of the people of the Northern Rivers and we would like to see decisive action on the remaining licences.
“We are still waiting for PEL 445 to be bought back as was promised by Thomas George and Troy Grant before the election and for the government to find a solution to the impasse they are currently facing with Metgasco.
“Since Metgasco, who own three PEL’s covering a huge portion of the region, have just walked away from the negotiating table, we hope the Government will solve that problem by introducing legislation to give us the permanent protection we need.” he said.
