Farmers not copping the Nationals CSG bull*#%! any longer.
Northern Rivers farmers will pay a visit to Nationals MPs offices in Lismore and Ballina today to show how fed up they are with the difference between the government’s CSG policies and their pre-election spin. To graphically illustrate just what they think of the Nats dishonest rhetoric and deceptive election spin, they will be setting up a street stall selling bags of cow manure.
“We are sick and tired of the National’s weak policies on coal seam gas and cow manure spin,” said Bentley farmer Peter Nielsen.
“They say they are listening to the community yet they are pushing ahead with gasfield development and spruiking their phony gas plan that does nothing to protect our farms and families.”
“Just yesterday the biggest drilling company in Australia, AJ Lucas, announced that it has purchased the largest gas licence in the region, PL445. The have set their sights firmly on the Northern Rivers.
“This development makes it more likely that the instant the election is over, if the Liberal National Government is returned to power, Northern Rivers communities will be facing the spectre of a gas drilling invasion.” he said.
Kyogle Farmer Peter Stackhouse added, “Good farming country around Lismore, Kyogle, Nimbin, Coraki, out west past Urbenville and right down to Maclean will all be up for grabs. As will the regional water supply areas that service major population centres like Ballina and Byron Bay.
“The Nats keep blaming Labor for granting the CSG licences but they have had four years to fix up the mess and they’ve failed to do so, and now we are threatened with exploration as soon as the election is over and the approvals are granted, ” said Kyogle farmer, Peter Stackhouse.
“They’ve introduced one useless policy after another that doesn’t protect us and they think that we are stupid enough to believe their lies.” he said.
“We’re not fooled by their manure and we will be making our feelings on this issue clear on election day by voting for candidates who are genuinely committed to protecting our region from gasfields.” he said.
